Thrift 2 Fight is looking for volunteer associates starting in May 2021. These positions will provide you with experience in the fields of retail, start-up development, communications, and social media management.
The next 5 months of work will be full of exploration, brainstorming, and networking as we scout for a retail space, grow our customer base, develop connections with local activist organizations, and prepare to pitch to investors.
We are looking to build a strong, communicative team, full of people who share Thrift 2 Fight’s values, and who are not afraid to challenge the system.
Inventory Assistant (1 HIRED, 1 available)
The Inventory Assistant coordinates clothing donation pickups, sorting, & pricing, as well as managing the inventory of clothing, shoes, & accessories. They will occasionally manage targeted searches for items of a particular size range, season, or type. Applicants should have a detailed eye for fashion and excellent organizational skills.
5hrs/week. Car required. Majority of work in person with COVID safety protocols.
General Manager (1)
The General Assistant will work directly with the core Thrift 2 Fight team in opening the flagship store and expanding the organization. They will assist in a wide array of tasks, from working with models and organizing photo sessions to proofreading content and researching storefront spaces.
7-10 hrs/week. Car Preferred. Majority remote work.
Social Media Developer - TikTok (2)
This Social Media assistant will create content for the Thrift 2 Fight TikTok account about racial justice in fashion, sustainability and its myths, and the T2F project itself. We are looking for someone with a sense of humor, good critical thinking, and the drive to assist T2F in becoming a part of the ThriftTok community.
3hrs/week. Available as a remote position.
Social Media Developer - Instagram (1)
This Social Media assistant will assist with research, creating graphics (Canva), and scheduling posts for each week (Buffer). Applicants should be comfortable with and excited by collaboration, as well as being either familiar with both the Canva and Buffer platforms or willing to learn.
5 hrs/week. Available as a remote position.
Web Content Creator - Blog Writer (1 HIRED, 1 available)
The Web Assistant will write blog articles about racial justice in fashion, sustainability and its myths, classism in the retail industry, and the T2F project itself. Applicants should have thorough research practices and enjoy writing.
5hrs/week. Available as a remote position.
HIRED: Community Outreach Assistant (1)
The Community Outreach Assistant will work directly with the Thrift 2 Fight core team to do research about and forge connections with the community in the flagship store location (TBD). 5 hrs/week. Available as a remote position.
An additional perk of working with Thrift 2 Fight is always having early access to all clothing inventory, which means that if you want to purchase an item you can do it without waiting for a sale. All funds from your purchase will be given directly to a local racial justice organization, like Rise Up Kingston or the Newburgh LGBTQ+ Center.
NOTE: While subsequent employment is not guaranteed, as a volunteer assistant you will be automatically considered for two part-time retail positions at the first Thrift 2 Fight store, as well as future marketing work on a contractual basis.
